Why Wellington SaaS teams routinely under-weight the GCC.
Wellington's B2B SaaS ecosystem is one of the strongest in the Southern Hemisphere — Xero, Vend (Lightspeed), Timely, 8x8, and a long tail of specialist B2B SaaS firms. Most of these teams target their post-ANZ markets in a predictable order: Australia first (already home-market-adjacent), then UK (shared language and legal familiarity), then US (TAM-driven), then APAC (Singapore, Sydney, sometimes Hong Kong).
The GCC is routinely ignored or placed low on the market priority list, usually with reasoning like "not a mature SaaS market" or "too much friction" or "we don't have Arabic." All three reasons are partially true and completely out of date.
GCC enterprise SaaS spend has grown faster than most APAC equivalents over the last five years. Enterprise ACVs are routinely higher than Australian equivalents for the same product. The friction is real but structural, and solvable with one capable senior Dubai-based partner. For a Wellington SaaS team of 50-300 people with Australian saturation nearing, the GCC is a credible second-international-market move that most peers are not making.
