The market in plain words

How United Arab Emirates actually works.

The UAE is where Gulf digital marketing money gets spent first. Dubai leads on retail, real estate, hospitality and e-commerce. Abu Dhabi anchors government, energy, finance and culture. Together they attract most of the regional spend and most of the regional competition.

Buyers here are affluent, mobile-first and multilingual. English is the business language, Arabic is the market language, and in many categories you need both. Research now starts in Google, Instagram, YouTube and, more and more, in AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity.

What this means for business owners: generic campaigns waste money fast here. CPMs are among the highest in the region. You can't outspend the market you have to out-think it.

Customer behaviour

How buyers actually make decisions here.

If your marketing ignores these, it won't work in United Arab Emirates. Simple as that.

01

Mobile-first, always.

Nearly every buyer journey starts on a phone. Desktop is for consideration and checkout, not discovery.

02

Multilingual.

A UAE campaign may need to work for English, Arabic, Hindi, Russian and Mandarin audiences with real cultural nuance, not translation.

03

AI-ready buyers.

Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews are everyday research tools for Dubai's affluent segment. If you're not showing up there, you're invisible to them.

04

Research-heavy.

Big-ticket decisions (property, cars, healthcare, finance) involve weeks of research across many platforms before a human conversation.

Key industries

Where the money is being spent.

The sectors that drive most marketing demand across United Arab Emirates.

01

Premium real estate

The biggest single marketing category. Developers, brokers and property platforms compete for the same affluent buyer.

02

Luxury retail & e-commerce

Family-office retail groups now facing digital-native D2C brands. Brand-first businesses are winning.

03

Hospitality & tourism

A hotel market unlike any other on Earth. Marketing is year-round, platform-wide, and expensive.

04

Financial services

DIFC and ADGM are home to wealth managers, hedge funds and fintechs. Long sales cycles. LinkedIn-heavy.

05

Healthcare & wellness

Premium clinics, cosmetic medicine, fertility. Big spenders with heavy regulatory sensitivity.

06

F&B

Where new concepts open weekly. Social and influencer win here.

The right approach

How to actually market in United Arab Emirates.

What works, what wastes money, and what we actually do differently.

01

Lead with brand.

Pure performance marketing burns cash in the UAE. Buyers choose brands they recognise. Build the brand first, then run performance on top.

02

Pay for creative, not just media.

The agencies winning here spend as much on production as on paid. Thumb-stopping creative beats thumb-stopping budgets.

03

Build for AI search day one.

FAQ pages, schema markup, llms.txt, clear positioning. Agencies still ignoring AEO are losing visibility they'll struggle to earn back.

04

Bilingual by default.

English-only brands cap themselves. Arabic-only brands cap themselves. Winners publish both, properly.

Questions, answered

Common questions.

From engagements and from the questions buyers actually ask us not generic SEO filler.

What's the minimum budget to do digital marketing in the UAE?+

For paid media alone, around a serious monthly budget to start learning. Below that, UAE CPMs eat the budget before the campaign can get smarter. SEO and content programmes can start smaller.

Do I need a UAE-based agency, or can I work with one remotely?+

You can work remotely, but your agency needs real UAE experience. A pure-US or pure-EU agency without regional context will miss the market by weeks. We work with clients remotely but we're in-market.

Should I enter the UAE first or Saudi Arabia?+

Depends on your category. Consumer luxury, hospitality and D2C UAE first. Fintech, enterprise B2B, giga-project supplier Saudi Arabia first. We help clients run both in parallel more often than you'd think.

How do I compete when Dubai CPMs are so high?+

Not with more spend. With better creative, sharper positioning, and content that compounds. The brands winning in Dubai are the ones that look expensive, not the ones that spend the most.

Is Arabic content essential for the UAE?+

English will get you a long way but Arabic materially expands reach into Emirati, Khaleeji and regional expatriate audiences. For luxury, hospitality and family categories, Arabic isn't optional.

Which emirate matters most for my business?+

For retail, hospitality, D2C e-commerce: Dubai. For government, energy, finance, culture: Abu Dhabi. For both: a plan that treats each separately, not a single UAE campaign copied across.
